What is the Cova Tallada?
The Cova Tallada is an old quarry of rough stone, located at sea level in the cliffs of the Marine Reserve of Cap de Sant Antoni, maritime extension of the Natural Park of Montgó, a natural area protected by the Generalitat Valenciana. This marine reserve extends between the towns of Dénia and Xàbia, in the north of the province of Alicante.
Why visit the Cova Tallada?
This natural site combines several attractions that make it worth visiting, starting with the marine reserve itself, a point of passage and observation of large cetaceans. The impressive cliffs of Cap de Sant Antoni, the history of the cave, an important quarry of rough stone since the 18th century, or the spectacular galleries of the cave, partly natural, partly excavated by man. For all these reasons, thousands of people visit this place every year.
Is it dangerous to visit the Cova Tallada?
Yes, the cave is a place that is not exempt from danger, as it is located in the middle of nature. There are multiple potential risks, such as falls from different heights, sharp rocks or risk of drowning. Sea storms can hit hard. There is no coverage in this place and there is no lifeguard service. Therefore, people who decide to visit this place do so under their own responsibility and accepting the risks.
Is access free of charge?
Access is free and must be done through a hiking route of medium-high difficulty. It can also be reached by kayak, either on your own or by hiring an activity offered by active tourism companies.
Access is free of charge, but reservations must be made in advance on certain dates: spring and summer.
On what dates do I need to reserve in advance?
- From June 15 to October 15, inclusive
- At Easter (dates depending on each year)
- On dates close to the first of May.
How do I make a reservation in advance?
Through the official form provided for this purpose by the Generalitat Valenciana. This is the same procedure used to book visits to other Natural Parks in the Valencian Community, such as the Penyal d’Ifac Natural Park. This form is only operative during the dates when authorization is required.

How to get to the Cova Tallada?
Access is via a hiking route that starts from Les Rotes, an area of urbanizations located 6 kilometers south of Denia.
It is also possible to get there by sea, using a kayak or paddle surf board. Several active tourism companies offer this activity, which includes a sea crossing and a visit to the cave.
